Fencing's Pub Crawl - Slightly more organised, marginally more chaotic Oct 2014
A Wednesday night yet again, and a quiet occasion it was not. Having once again made its way to the highly praised watering hole, The Good Yarn, Fencing set about creating the sort of raucous atmosphere reserved for feeding time at the zoo. Having designated one corner of the pub as territory of Brunel Fencing, drinks were soon flowing, and Ring of Fire naturally took place. Despite a general ineptitude from everyone on show to follow the rules, the game culminated with hero of the hour, Jay, downing a dirty jug of what can only be described as liquid evil.
Moving on, Fencing made it's way (or "crawled" if you will) to the Met, for more drinks and a lively boat race. Whilst arranging for a group of drunk fencers to stand in two separate lines proved harder than teaching a blinded gorilla how to perform eye surgery on itself, the task was eventually accomplished, with one unidentified team triumphing and one crumbling to defeat. But aren't we all moral victors?
As the night tailed off, some of the more daring and foolhardy ventured into the soul-trap that is Liquid, whilst the few with their senses retained stumbled onwards to Liquid. What happened after, no-one knows, though rumours of a wild Jay appearing in Subway were rife.
Great social, great people, and fortunately still looking forward to the rest of the year.

Fencing's First Social - Organised Chaos Oct 2014
Wednesday night proved a great first outing for the club this year. Organised by Amanda, Social Sec, and Constance, Secretary, the evening meal was a pleasant enough experience with plenty of deafening conversation, a disastrous attempt to pay the bill, and a waiter who looked close to a nervous breakdown and by the end of the evening deserved elevation to Sainthood. A solid start to the evening.
Following this was an orderly march to nearby Wetherspoons, Uxbridge's premier drinking hole and home to the finest patrons our proud town has to offer. Despite the lively atmosphere and welcoming-looking resident drinkers, consisting partly of toothless, old drug hounds, Fencing managed to make the evening work, though this may also be credited to Wetherspoons' world-famous drink offers and the fact that Jaegerbombs are now Brunel Fencing's official drink of choice.
The true heroes of the night are Amanda, for organising the evening, and the brave/stupid few who decided to make the most of a Wednesday and head to Liquid. The *Liability of the Evening* award goes to Constance, though credit to her for eventually managing to stagger home alive. Watch below for an instructional video from Constance on how to perform her new dance move, "Crabbing", coming soon to a dancefloor near you.
It was great to see so many new and old faces out with us, and we're looking forward to the next social. Get on it Amanda!

New Term, New Beginnings Sept 2014
With the start of the new academic year drawing near, and Freshers' Week looming large, Brunel Fencing is looking forward to welcoming back a host of returning students, members and friends, as well as ushering in new faces to join the Fencing Family.
Term 1 represents an opportunity for new students, whether first year or postgrad, experienced or novice, to try their hand at fencing and begin what will hopefully be a long stay at the club. It also offers returning fencers the chance to right previous wrongs or build on past success. Whether it's finally winning the BUCS league after so many previous attempts, defending an individual title won at the BUCS Championships (*ahem* Soji *ahem*), keeping a brand new men's team afloat and competitive amongst quality opposition, or simply mastering some basic footwork, this new year offers everyone a chance to achieve success.
Returners, alumni and fresh faces are all encouraged to attend training and socials, with details regularly updated on Facebook and our website.
Finally, with the beginning of a new year we have to say farewell to our previous Chair, Constance Goulletquer, to whom a lot of the club's achievements last year can be attributed. However, with a new committee featuring old faces and new, and a club possessing some of the best members around, we're hoping to build on these foundations and continue to improve.
Last year was our biggest, best and most successful yet, so let's start this year with a bang and aim even higher.
